Important Things Related to Power Supply When Using Current Sensors

As a component with both protective and monitoring functions, the current sensors will be widely used in the future electric measurement. In this article, the use of the current sensor and the power supply will be discussed.
 
1. The positive and negative output voltages of traditional switching power supplies have a certain deviation. For example, the positive terminal voltage of the power supply is +15V, and the negative terminal voltage is -14.8V, which does not affect the measurement of the sensor accuracy.
2. Keep a certain margin when selecting the power supply:
Power output capability>Working voltage* (Output current + Standby power consumption current)
3. If using ±12V working voltage, the sensor can also work normally, but the maximum measured current will be restricted. The figure shown below is cited from HANGZHI 600A product specification.
 
 
 
4. When using a switching power supply to supply power to the sensor, the noise of the switching power supply (above about 20K Hz) will be coupled to the output of the sensor, and hardware filtering or software filtering (average filtering, FIR filtering, etc.) can be used to improve better measurement accuracy of small current;
5. In the ultra-high-precision measurement circuit, it is recommended to give priority to the use of linear power supply.

 

The power supply selection of the current sensor has an impact on the performance of the sensor. Therefore, please pay attention to the selection of the power supply when using current sensors.
